According to public records, Bowling has donated $350 to Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign: http://fundrace.huffingtonpost.com Oddly, the address on the public file is One University Ave., Bourbonnais, IL 60914, the university’s address. This brings into question whether someone else made the donation.
Most recently Bowling has been cited in the news (MSNBC and Newsweek) for making a controversial decision concerning the teachings of Dr. Richard Colling, a long-time biology professor at the university.
Colling is a believer in theistic evolution and the author of Random Designer. In the book Colling attempts to show how science and Christianity can coexist.
Last year Bowling banned Colling from using the book in the classroom as well as teaching general biology courses.
Many students were outraged by the decision. A Facebook group entitled “Student Support for Dr. Colling” was formed soon afterwards in which hundreds of students joined to show their stance on the issue.
Now it seems that Bowling might find himself in a similar position. If records are right, Bowling has contributed to a political candidate that is pro-abortion and who has also opposed a ban on same sex-marriage on the Senate floor.
Most Christians world-wide support anti-abortion laws and oppose same-sex marriage. Bowling’s contribution could cause problems for him and the Nazarene church. We will find out in the coming days.
